Description
The Toll Gatehouse at Gilmours' Gatineau Mills, Chelsea. When operation of the mill ceased it was rented to the Bains. Tom Padden, watchman for the Gatineau Power Company moved it to the corner of Old Chelsea and Scott Roads in Old Chelsea. In the 1980s and 1990s it was operated as L'Agaric, a cozy French cuisine restaurant enjoyed by locals, skiers and cyclists. After the owner died in c 2000, the restaurant changed hands a number of times and in 2008,it was completely renovated as "Le Rendez-vous", a Pizza-pub type restaurant. The style of the main entrance was preserved. The restaurant went out of business a couple of years or less after opening and the building was advertised for sale for a few years. Eventually, in 2014, it opened as Mama Teresa's restaurant, a branch of the Ottawa restaurant by the same name serving Italian food.
