L'église St-Nom-de-Marie, Lac-Sainte-Marie

St-Nom-de-Marie Parish's Church

The religious presence dates back to 1840 the year the first chapel was built. It was served by mission from 1841 to 1881, a resident parish priest from 1881 to 1884 and again served by mission from 1884 to 1893, the date of the appointment of a resident priest. The parish was then served by the parish priests of Farrelton and Gracefield as well as by the Oblates of Maniwaki. In 1881, Pierre Chatillon became the first abbot of the parish. The following year, the construction of the first church was undertaken. The Saint-Nom-de-Marie Church in Lac Ste Marie was built in 1904-1905. The construction of the Paugan Dam, which was completed in 1929, led to the flooding of the lower part of the village. The church was moved to its present location due to the construction of the Paugan dam.
