Notre Dame de la Visitation, Gracefield

A Catholic mission was established in Gracefield in 1843. The first chapel was built in 1856 and was used for more than half a century. In 1912, the modest wooden construction was replaced by a much more imposing building to accommodate the 1,500 faithful of the parish officially recognized in 1901. The beautiful brick presbytery of Notre-Dame-de-la-Visitation was blessed in 1913. Its three-vessel nave, high semi-circular vault, columns with elaborate capitals and beautiful woodwork are eye-catching. The rich interior decor, however, was gradually modified from the 1950s. Thus, the three altars, the pulpit, the communion table and the woodwork have now disappeared.
