When teams and sleights freighted up the Gatineau
There was a story that my uncle told me when I was quite young. A lot of the detail is lost to my memory new but there is a little humour in it.
In the days when they freighted up the Gatineau with teams and sleighs there were stopping places spaced about as far apart as a team would travel in a day. One of those stopping places was at Low - operated by the Brooks family.
One evening this fellow, after feeding his horses, sat down to his supper. Mrs. Brooks placed a bowl of gravy on the table in front of him. He promptly drank the bowl of gravy and, putting the bowl down, he decided to congratulate Mrs. Brooks. He told her - "That sure is good soup, Mrs. Brooks".
