"A Time of Sharing, a Time of Connection"

Presentation by Gilbert W. Whiteduck, Kitigan Zibi

Centre Wakefield La Pêche - April 25, 2022

Over 100 friends and members of the Society gathered in a circle in Wakefield on Monday evening to hear Gilbert Whiteduck of Kitigan Zibi reflect on Indigenous spirituality, sacred traditions, and on the impacts of historical injustices on the Anishinabe Algonquin Nation.

Many thanks to Gilbert who taught us to challenge our historical assumptions and historical notions, and to confront the racism that Indigenous people in Canada still face today as a direct consequence of colonial policies.

The GVHS will continue to pay respect to the Anishinabe Algonquin people who are the traditional guardians of this land. We acknowledge their longstanding sacred relationship with this territory which is unceeded. The ancestral territory along the Tenàgàdino Zìbì, (or Gatineau River), has served as a travel route, location for villages, site of meetings and exchanges amongst visiting nations. We acknowledge the traditional knowledge keepers and the courageous leaders; past, present, future. We pledge to honor and respect the Anishinabeg Algonquin Nation.
