To the World Scout Jamboree 1955 (part three)
PART THREE
The last part of this yarn our pair of scouts had located Envelope No. 8 in the reservoir, this is what they read:
| No. 8 Having found these instructions you'll have two less miles to walk but you still have 8.5 miles to go. Proceed to 378365. Turn on to the road bearing 12? True. Follow this road for 1/2 mile, until you come to a fork in the road. Take a true bearing down the centre of the road which forks to the left. Be sure to enter this in your log, as well as the condition of the surface as NATO forces may be required to send armoured vehicles along it. Do not follow this road as there will probably be a Russian ambush on it. Take the road to the right and proceed by the best route you are able to 398349. At the latter spot open No. 09. |
| No. 9 Proceed to 413348. Having reached a main highway turn NNE to POLINSKI. A feature of pedestrian travel in Russia on main highway is that they walk on the left side of the road. Be sure to do this, as should you walk on the other side it will surely reveal that you are enemy spies. Continue through POLINSKI which, incidentally, the Russians have wrongly signed the EDISNORI *. Keep on the highway and head towards UPPER PETROV. Here open No. 10. |
| No. 10 On the right side of the road is a Russian power plant. Locate this and mark down the map reference and describe the set u in your log book. Continue to UPPER PETROV and locate a school at 391395 which you should reach not before 1500 hrs. and not after 1600 hrs. Proceed to the nearest RR station and find out the times of the daily passenger trains, both up and down. Wait for relief. |
