And that's the Law!

At a general meeting of the West Hull Council held 3rd day of June 1895.

Minute No. 139
Moved by Councillor Chs. A. Dewar, seconded by Councillor James Hammond.

That George Boucher (?) is hereby appointed special constable to maintain peace and order at Upper and Lower Chelsea, and to enforce the By-laws of this Council and the Satuts (sic) of the province of Quebec, at the same conditions and with the same obligations as Wm. Fitzpatrick.

At a general meeting of the West Hull Council held 7th day of April 1896.

Minute 184
Moved by Councillor James Hammond, seconded by Councillor Martin Welch.

That in view of the determination of the Quebec Government to return the present Sheriff of Ottawa County, we the council of the Municipality of West Hull, do endorse the nomination of Mr. Chs. M. Wright (Charles Montgomery Wright 1863-1925) of the City of Hull, for said office and respectfully ask the Government to grant this favor (sic) and that our Secretary be requested to forward a Copy of this resolution to the hon. Mr. Casgrain, attorney General of Quebec.

Echoes from the Past

ROAD MAINTENANCE 1904

At a general meeting of the West Hull Council held 5th day of December 1904.

Minute 477
Moved by Councillor P. Mulvihill, seconded by Councillor William D. Hopper.

That the secretary-treasurer be and is instructed to ask for and receive tenders at so much per trip for rolling the following roads during winter of 1904-5. Viz. From Old Chelsea to residence of Mr. Charles Bryson at Kingsmere, from Old Chelsea to concession road near the residence of Mr. William Benedict. From Old Chelsea to East end of Meach (sic) Lake, and from Old Chelsea to residence of Mr. Albert Chamberlin, the whole of the above mentioned roads, passing over them both ways to constitute one trip.

All tenders to be hand in on or before the 24th day of December 1904, and that the Mayor and Councillors Lawrence Dunn and Gabriel Dunlop be and are hereby appointed a committee to accept and of the tenders which may be made for doing said work. The lowest or any tender not necessarily accepted.

Carried.

Note use of "Old" Chelsea - Road to be rolled, not ploughed.
