History

“President’s Shield” was donated by the Club in 1929 for Ladies’ Annual Championship making this the oldest trophy for which the ladies’ compete. The inaugural champion Eta Sherrin, was the wife of one of the original developers (Philip Sherrin) who, jointly with Larry McCooey in 1924, proceeded with the idea of organizing a small community golf club. The club, named “Larrimac” after its founder Larry McCooey – or “Larry Mac’s Club” - was organized under the initial management of Sherrin and McCooey. Eta made the original flags and embroidered numbers on them for each of the 9 holes. She died in 1952 in England where she returned after Philip died. Originally, this was a match play tournament switching to medal play in the early 1950’s.
